Welcome Back/Send Off

In November 2007, we celebrated another Welcome Back/Send Off with the Boston Area Peace Corps Community.

All RPCVs are invited to these events, as well as friends and families of Peace Corps, to Welcome Back those recently returning from service and Send Off those about to embark on "the toughest job you'll ever love." This November's WB/SO welcomed a record number of RPCVs, nominees, friends and family to an intimate gathering in downtown Boston.

Returned Peace Corps Volunteers were on hand to share their Peace Corps story with prospective Volunteers and their families.  new PCVs.  We were welcomed first by James Arena-DeRosa, New England Regional Director of the Peace Corps. Dennis Ramsier (RPCV Liberia '71-'73)  addressed the audience to introduce the new "MBA Returned Peace Corps Scholarship" at Northeastern University's College of Business Administration and David Magnani (RPCV Sierra Leone '68-'71) spoke about the need for increasing advocacy from his role as the Boston area delgate to the National Peace Corps Association. We also heard from BARPCV President Kendra Gray (RPCV Russia '99-'01) about BARPCV programming and our 2008 Call to Action in response to the current crisis in the Darfur Region of Sudan.

Overall, it was a great event to meet new people, exchange information and share experiences.

The WB/SO Committee will be meeting soon to plan the May WB/SO. The committee includes a co-chair from BARPCV and a co-chair from the Peace Corps Boston Regional Office. For information on helping out with the committee, contact Jacque Caglia at jacquelyn.caglia@gmail.com
